Paul Merson states his prediction for Chelsea v Burnley
Paul Merson previews Chelsea's home clash with Burnley in their Premier League opener on Saturday
Paul Merson is backing Chelsea to kick off their Premier League title defence with a 3-1 victory over Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues are looking to defend their Premier League title this term after having triumphed in spectacular fashion under Antonio Conte last season.
Chelsea won a record 30 games on their way towards lifting the trophy and earned plenty of praise for their performances in Conte’s first campaign in charge.
The Blues are set to host Sean Dyche’s men at Stamford Bridge this weekend as they look to kick off their title defence in positive fashion.
New signing Alvaro Morata could be set to make his Premier League debut and lead the attack as the Blues look to make a strong start to the season.
And former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping the west London side to have no problems against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Merson wrote in his Sky Sports column: “I had a close eye on Chelsea in the Community Shield and what’s clear is that they aren’t the same team with Eden Hazard.
“But Burnley at home on the opening day of the season is a nice game given the Clarets’ poor away record.”
Chelsea have signed four players so far this summer after having tied up deals for Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Morata so far.
The west London side are also gearing up for a return to the Champions League this season.
