Chelsea are to ramp up their efforts to sign Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City after cooling their interest in Renato Sanches, according to reports in Italy.

Italian outlet Mediaset Premium, as quoted by Metro, is claiming that the Blues have turned their attentions away from signing the 19-year-old Sanches this summer and are instead now focusing their efforts elsewhere.

The same story claims that Chelsea were interested in signing Sanches from Bayern Munich but now AC Milan remain as the only club interested in signing him on loan from the German side.

The article states that Chelsea will now focus their efforts on trying to sign 27-year-old midfielder Drinkwater from Leicester City as Antonio Conte searches for his fifth signing of the summer.

The story says that the Blues consider Drinkwater to be a “viable” option for them to strengthen their midfield after they opted to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United on Monday.

Chelsea have signed four players so far this summer as Conte prepares for his second season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have completed deals for Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata so far this summer.
