Jamie Carragher tells Chelsea to play for a draw at Tottenham
Jamie Carragher believes that Chelsea should play for a draw against Tottenham on Sunday
Jamie Carragher believes that Chelsea should head into their clash with Tottenham on Sunday looking to settle for a point if possible.
The Blues suffered a disastrous start to the new season last weekend when they were beaten 3-2 by Burnley at Stamford Bridge in the shock result of the opening weekend.
Chelsea also had Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill sent off during the game, meaning that both players will miss the trip to Wembley to take on Spurs this weekend.
Given how poorly Chelsea have started the season, Carragher feels that the Blues would be wise to set up to play for a draw against their London rivals.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “Next week, the mentality for Chelsea has to be: go there and don’t get beat. Take your point. Everton at home the following week, get three points.
“Try and go into the international break with four points, you’ll maybe be three points off the top. Not the end of the world.”
Chelsea are looking to retain their Premier League title this season after having won the trophy in impressive fashion in Antonio Conte’s first season at the club last term.
The west Londoners did not have the distraction of European football last season, however, with the Blues set to make a return to the Champions League next month.
Chelsea have signed Willy Caballero, Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko so far in the summer transfer window.
Spurs, meanwhile, kicked off their season with a comfortable 2-0 win at Newcastle United on Sunday.
