Alan Shearer sends message to Chelsea fans about Alvaro Morata
Alan Shearer praises Alvaro Morata for his strong performance for Chelsea from the bench against Burnley
Alan Shearer was impressed by Alvaro Morata’s performance during Chelsea’s shock 3-2 loss to Burnley in their Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The 24-year-old striker came off the bench to play for the final 31 minutes at Stamford Bridge as the Blues slumped to a disappointing loss in front of their home fans.
However, Morata’s introduction seemed to spark Chelsea into life, with the Spaniard having scored one goal and set up another on his Premier League debut.
But the striker was not able to inspire a complete comeback as Antonio Conte’s men slumped to a surprise defeat in front of their home fans.
Morata signed for Chelsea from Real Madrid last month and will look to hold down a regular place in the team this season.
And former England striker Shearer was clearly impressed by what he saw from Morata as he made his first appearance in the Premier League.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer said: “The first thing he did [when he came on] was ask questions of the back four. He was asking different questions of them.
“His movement was good in the box. He is always on the move.”
Morata will be hoping to feature from the start for Chelsea when the Blues take on Tottenham Hotspur in their next Premier League game at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues are preparing to make a return to the Champions League next month.
