Ian Wright sends reassuring message to Chelsea fans about Alvaro Morata
The Arsenal legend is backing Chelsea signing Alvaro Morata to be a success at Stamford Bridge
Ian Wright is backing Alvaro Morata to blossom into a prolific striker at Chelsea.
The Spain international made his full Premier League debut at Wembley on Sunday afternoon in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Morata, though, missed a superb chance to make the breakthrough after the 24-year-old miscued a free header at the home of English football.
His compatriot Marcos Alonso spared his blushes with a brilliant free-kick to break the deadlock before the left-back netted an 88th-minute winner following Michy Batshuayi’s own goal.
Morata moved to Chelsea in a £58m deal from Champions League holders Real Madrid last month after the defending Premier League champions missed out on Romelu Lukaku.
The Spanish forward scored his first Premier League goal in a 3-2 loss to Burnley last weekend to open his account on his first top-flight appearance.
Former Arsenal striker Wright is confident that Morata will prove a good addition to the Chelsea team despite missing a glorious chance to score at Wembley.
“They have some good players,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Morata, in another couple of weeks’ time, will nick a couple of goals. He will take his chances.”
Chelsea have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger and Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko in the summer transfer window so far.
The Blues are in eleventh place in the Premier League table.
