Lampard sends frank warning to Chelsea ahead of Burnley clash
Frank Lampard sends a warning to Chelsea after their Community Shield defeat by Arsenal on Sunday
Frank Lampard has warned Chelsea that they must quickly step their game up after their Community Shield defeat by Arsenal at Wembley on Sunday.
The Blues were beaten on penalties by Arsene Wenger’s men after Sead Kolasinac cancelled out Victor Moses’ opener in the second half at Wembley.
It marked back to back defeats for the Blues to the Gunners at Wembley after Chelsea also lost to Arsene Wenger’s men in the FA Cup final back in May.
Chelsea now have a week to prepare themselves for their Premier League opener against Burnley as they look to defend the title they won last season.
And Lampard has warned that the west London side must quickly dust themselves down because they cannot afford to make a slow start to the new Premier League campaign.
Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle at Wembley, Lampard said: “The performance was pretty average [from Chelsea].
“Rusty in the first half, glimpses in the second half. I’m not quite sure why Courtois took a penalty so early.
“There are some tiny little signals and they have to put it right by next week because if you have a slow start in the Premier League, you struggle to come back from it.”
Chelsea have signed four players so far this summer after having brought in Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
The west London side are set to make a return to the Champions League next season after missing out on a place in Europe last term.
