Graeme Souness: What really impressed me about Chelsea’s win at Tottenham
The Liverpool legend heaps praise on Chelsea for their response at Wembley last weekend
Graeme Souness has claimed that Chelsea answered a lot of questions with their 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The Premier League champions endured a tumultuous summer after missing out on top targets Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Juventus defender Alex Sandro.
Chelsea made the surprise decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United in a £40m deal earlier this month as the defending champions strengthened a direct title rival.
The Blues made a disappointing start to the defence of their title after Chelsea lost 3-2 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge in their Premier League opener.
Club captain Gary Cahill and Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas were both sent off against Sean Dyche’s side to rule them out of the trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Chelsea bounced back at Wembley with a 2-1 win against last season’s runners-up thanks to Marcos Alonso’s goals either side of half-time.
Former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder Souness was impressed with Chelsea’s response given the criticism and scrutiny of the title holders in recent weeks.
“Chelsea responded how big teams respond. They came out and were so disciplined,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“They were clinical when they needed to be. They answered a lot of questions. Chelsea are still a team to be feared.”
Chelsea will host Everton in their next Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The west London side have signed Willy Caballero, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Alvaro Morata and Antonio Rudiger this summer.
