Harry Redknapp states prediction about Chelsea next season
Harry Redknapp talks up Chelsea's chances of retaining their Premier League crown next season
Harry Redknapp admits he wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea won the Premier League title next season.
Italian coach Antonio Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, the Blues finished seven points clear of their closest title challengers Tottenham Hotspur after wrapping up the title at West Brom.
The west London side missed out on the double after Arsenal were 2-1 winners against the newly-crowned Premier League champions at Wembley.
Chelsea have already signed four players in the summer transfer window to improve his squad ahead of their title defence and a return to the Champions League.
The Blues have recruited Manchester City reserve goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Birmingham City boss Redknapp believes there is a strong chance that Chelsea could retain their Premier League crown next term.
“But Chelsea will not be going away, that is for sure. Antonio Conte has proved himself to be a fine manager,” Redknapp told The Sun.
“Even the expected loss of star striker Diego Costa should not deflect the Italian too much – not when he has Eden Hazard running midfield.
“So would it be a major surprise if he won the title back to back? Not really.”
Chelsea will take on Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley.
The Blues will start their Premier League title defence with a clash against Burnley on 12 August.
