Pat Nevin is confident Chelsea will finish in the Premier League top four despite a difficult summer transfer window.

Antonio Conte has reportedly grown increasingly frustrated at a lack of success in the summer market despite Chelsea winning the Premier League title with two games to spare last term.

Chelsea have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in the summer so far.

However, the defending champions have lost some big names from their squad after club legend John Terry called time on his Blues career before Chelsea sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester United in a £40m deal.

Chelsea made a conspicuous start to the Premier League season after a shock 3-2 loss to Burnley in their opening game of their title defence.

Conte’s men bounced back with a 2-1 victory over title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last weekend thanks to Marcos Alonso’s heroics.

Chelsea were 2-0 winners against another of Nevin’s former clubs Everton in their Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Former Chelsea winger Nevin is confident that the defending champions will be fine this season despite a tough start to the campaign.

“There is enough there for Chelsea,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.

“He brought on Pedro. He will have five or six options on top of that. Chelsea will be fine.

“Chelsea will be in the top four. They won’t have a daft season.

“I can’t see it not happening until they don’t get two or three players in, which they will do.”

The Blues have won the title twice in the last three seasons.
