Martin Keown predicts where Chelsea will finish this season
Martin Keown says Chelsea could miss out on a top-four finish in the Premier League this season
Martin Keown has warned that Chelsea could miss out on a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
The Blues were the Premier League’s top performing team last term as they secured a record 30 victories on their way to being crowned as Premier League champions in Antonio Conte’s first campaign at the club.
The west London side have brought in four new players so far this summer as they prepare to kick off their title defence with a home clash against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea have brought in Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko so far this summer as they prepare for the new season.
However, the future of Diego Costa still remains up in the air, with the Spanish forward widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
And Arsenal legend Keown feels that Chelsea could struggle to reach the same heights as last season, as they also prepare for a return to the Champions League next term.
Keown told the Daily Mail: “If the gamble to let go of Costa backfires, the champions could easily miss out on the top four.”
Chelsea were beaten by Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley last Sunday as they lost to the Gunners for the second straight game at the national stadium.
