Steven Gerrard sends message to Chelsea fans about Alvaro Morata
Steven Gerrard feels that Alvaro Morata's goal against Burnley will boost the new Chelsea signing's confidence levels
Steven Gerrard believes that Alvaro Morata’s confidence levels will be boosted after he scored his first Premier League goal at the weekend, despite Chelsea’s 3-2 loss to Burnley.
Morata came on in the second half and netted his first top-flight goal for the west London side since his transfer from Real Madrid last month.
However, the 24-year-old’s strike was not enough to prompt a comeback by Chelsea as the Blues slumped to a shock defeat on the first day of the season.
The Spaniard missed his penalty in the defeat by Arsenal in the Community Shield at the start of the month.
And Gerrard feels that Morata’s goal was one of the few positive factors in Chelsea’s surprise defeat by Burnley.
Speaking on Premier League Tonight on BT Sport on Saturday night, Gerrard said: “The one positive for Chelsea was Alvaro Morata getting on the score-sheet.
“He had a difficult weekend last time in the Community Shield and now he seems to be back. That will do his confidence the world of good.”
Chelsea will now have to dust themselves down as they look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Wembley to take on Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
The Blues won the Premier League last season but lost the FA Cup final to Arsenal before being beaten by the Gunners at Wembley in the Community Shield earlier this month.
