Jamie Redknapp makes exciting prediction about Chelsea signing
The Liverpool legend is backing Chelsea signing Tiemoue Bakayoko to blossom into a top player
Jamie Redknapp is confident Tiemoue Bakayoko will only get better as the Chelsea signing gets more Premier League football under his belt.
The French midfielder was rushed into the Blues team last weekend for the trip to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Antonio Conte was without suspended Cesc Fabregas for the London derby, while the defending champions made the surprise decision to sell Nemanja Matic to title rivals Manchester United.
The Blues signed Bakayoko in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco last month but the defensive midfielder wasn’t fully fit due to a knee operation earlier this summer.
However, the 23-year-old made a return to competitive action at Wembley on Sunday and the Frenchman acquitted himself well in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp was impressed with Bakayoko’s potential following the summer signing’s promising debut.
“Bakayoko is a midfield powerhouse,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “Chelsea have a good player here. He is 23 and in a few years, he will only get better.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after finishing seven points clear of their closest title rivals Tottenham in Conte’s first season.
The Italian coach has also signed Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in the summer transfer window so far.
