Arsene Wenger sends clear transfer message to Chelsea
Arsene Wenger tells Chelsea that Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not for sale this summer
Arsene Wenger has told Chelsea to forget about signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal this summer.
The 24-year-old midfielder’s situation has been a source of speculation this summer after he entered into the final 12 months of his contract at The Emirates.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move to try and sign the England international as Antonio Conte searches for his fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
However, Wenger has made it clear that he is determined to keep hold of the midfielder beyond the summer after singling out Oxlade-Chamberlain as one of the players the Arsenal team could be built around in future seasons.
Speaking at a news conference at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Thursday morning, Gunners boss Wenger said: “I want Alex to stay.
“He’s one of the players the team can be built around, I want him to commit and be one of the carriers of the values of this team.
“I want to keep my best players – my only target is to keep everyone on board. We’ve invested time and money and confidence on players like Ox and they have a responsibility. I hope he commits.”
Wenger is currently preparing his Arsenal team for their crunch Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side are aiming to bounce back from the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Stoke City last weekend.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are preparing to host Everton as they look to make it back to back Premier League wins following their victory over Tottenham last time out.
The defending Premier League champions have signed Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata so far this summer.
