Antonio Conte sends honest message to Chelsea fans about Alvaro Morata
Antonio Conte says it will take time for Alvaro Morata to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League at Chelsea
Antonio Conte has told Chelsea fans to be patient with Alvaro Morata as the striker gets used to life in the Premier League.
The Spanish forward made his first competitive start for the Blues on Sunday as he came on as a late substitute in Chelsea’s Community Shield defeat by Arsenal.
Morata failed to make much of an impact at Wembley and then missed his penalty in the shootout as the Blues suffered another defeat by the Gunners at Wembley.
The 24-year-old striker signed for Chelsea from Real Madrid last month as he became the west London side’s fourth recruit of the summer.
However, Chelsea boss Conte believes that Morata is going to need time to get used to life in England following his transfer from the Spanish side.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at Wembley, Conte said: “Morata has missed work but that’s normal, he has only stayed with us for two weeks.
“It’s very important for him to find a good physical condition and to understand our idea of football.
“That’s normal. It’s the same for Rudiger and for Bakayoko.’
Morata will be hoping to make his Premier League debut this weekend when Chelsea kick off their title defence with a home clash against Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are also preparing for a return to the Champions League this season after missing out on a place in Europe last term.
