Frank Lampard reacts to Victor Moses’ display in Chelsea v Arsenal
Frank Lampard has his say about Victor Moses' performance for Chelsea in their Community Shield loss to Arsenal
Frank Lampard hailed Victor Moses’ performance as the Nigerian netted Chelsea’s opener in their Community Shield defeat against Arsenal on Sunday at Wembley.
Moses enjoyed a regular run in the first team last season under Antonio Conte as his fine performances helped Chelsea to win the Premier League title.
The wing-back opened the scoring for the Blues in the first minute of the second half at Wembley on Sunday when he darted in to poke home from close range.
However, Arsenal levelled in the 82nd minute when new signing Sead Kolasinac headed home Granit Xhaka’s free-kick.
And the Gunners eventually won the game on penalties after Thibaut Courtois and Alvaro Morata missed their spot-kicks.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, Lampard told BT Sport: “He came at a young age, I think he had a year under Rafa Benitez when he got a few minutes but then he got loaned out for three years on the trot.
“Antonio Conte came in and gave him a new lease of life.
“He gave him a role as a wing-back and you saw a player today who was a massively important player for them.”
Chelsea will now look to dust themselves down as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Burnley next weekend.
The Blues have now lost to Arsenal in their last two visits to Wembley after they were beaten by the Gunners in the FA Cup final back in May.
