Chelsea want to make 23-year-old Portugal starlet their fifth signing – report
Chelsea are interested in signing Joao Cancelo from Valencia this summer, say reports
Chelsea are interested in signing Joao Cancelo from Valencia this summer, according to reports in the British media.
Sky Sports is reporting that the Blues are keen on luring the 23-year-old full-back to Stamford Bridge this summer as Antonio Conte searches for further defensive reinforcements ahead of next season.
The same story claims that Chelsea have been “extensively” scouting the defender and watched him closely when he played for Portugal at the European Under-21 championships this summer.
Cancelo made his first senior appearance for the Portuguese national team last summer when he played the full 90 minutes of a 5–0 friendly win over Gibraltar in Porto.
Chelsea are believed to still be on the lookout for a number of signings this summer despite having already brought in four new players.
The Blues have secured deals for Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata so far this summer.
However, Conte is thought to be out to further bolster his squad as they also prepare for a return to the Champions League this season.
Chelsea are preparing for their Premier League opener against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon as they look to kick off their campaign with a win.
