Nathan Ake replies to Antonio Conte about Chelsea exit
Nathan Ake has hit back at Antonio Conte after the Chelsea manager's recent comments about young players
Nathan Ake has hit back at Antonio Conte after the Chelsea manager suggested that young players these days lack patience.
The young Dutch defender opted to leave Chelsea to join Bournemouth this summer after failing to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge last season.
Ake was recalled from his loan spell at Bournemouth by Conte mid-way through last season but the defender failed to break into the starting XI in the second half of the campaign.
The 22-year-old was keen to get regular playing time and clearly did not want to be shipped out on loan for another season.
Ake’s transfer to Bournemouth was completed earlier in the summer, but Conte has since questioned the attitude of some young players, despite not naming the defender directly.
But the centre-half has now hit back at the Chelsea manager as he underlined his reasons for quitting Stamford Bridge to return to Bournemouth on a permanent deal.
Ake is quoted as saying by Metro: “It is a short career, but I’m 22 now and I feel like I have had a good experience playing games and you just want to continue doing that,
“I understand what he said but I think we also know that Chelsea is a big club and for myself it was going to be difficult to come in and play straight away.
“The decision to come here was to be able to play more games which is important for me and that is why I came here.
“There are no guarantees that I will play coming here but if I train hard and play well then I will have a chance. Hopefully, I can be in the team from the start of the season.”
Chelsea are preparing to try and defend their Premier League title next season after they won the title under Conte last term.
