New Chelsea signing lifts lid on his frustrations
Tiemoue Bakayoko lifts the lid on his frustrating start to life as a Chelsea player
Tiemoue Bakayoko has admitted that he was frustrated to have to wait so long to make his first appearance in a Chelsea shirt following his transfer from Monaco this summer.
The midfielder signed for the Blues last month after Antonio Conte identified him as the man to bolster his options in that position ahead of the new season.
However, the 23-year-old was made to wait until last weekend to make his first official appearance for his new club after he arrived at Chelsea with a minor knee injury.
Bakayoko played from the start alongside N’Golo Kante as Chelsea wrapped up an impressive 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
And the France international has admitted that he was frustrated at being sidelined for the first few weeks of his Chelsea career.
Bakayoko is quoted as saying by Metro: “I couldn’t wait to play my first match.
“When you know you have been bought for €45m, and you arrive with an injury and you are not totally recovered, you have this sensation that you are no use because you cost a lot.
“You want to help your team. And then, in pre-season, we conceded a lot of goals. You also heard everywhere that Chelsea’s transfer business had not been a success.
“All that gives you the determination to get back on the pitch.”
Bakayoko will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action on Sunday with a home clash against Everton at Stamford Bridge.
The west London side lost their opening game of the season when they suffered a shock 3-2 loss to Burnley at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
The Blues have brought in Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger, Willy Caballero and Alvaro Morata so far this summer.
