Alan Shearer sends message to Chelsea about ‘ridiculous’ transfer
Alan Shearer criticises Chelsea's decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United this summer
Alan Shearer has criticised Chelsea’s decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United this summer, branding the decision as “ridiculous”.
The Blues opted to part company with the Serbian midfielder as they agreed to sell him to their direct Premier League rivals and allow him to link up with his former manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old was sold after Chelsea brought in young midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco as one of their four summer signings so far.
Matic has slotted seamlessly into the team at Old Trafford and has started both of Manchester United’s two Premier League games this season, helping them to notch up 4-0 wins over both West Ham United and Swansea City.
And former England star Shearer admits that he cannot believe that Chelsea were willing to let Matic move to Manchester United and boost their Premier League title rivals.
“The arrival of Nemanja Matic certainly looks to have freed him [Paul Pogba] to roam,” Shearer said, writing in his column for the Sun.
“What on earth were Chelsea doing letting Matic go to one of their big rivals? Ridiculous.”
Chelsea picked up their first Premier League points of the season on Sunday as they secured a 2-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are top of the table after their thumping victories helped them start the new campaign in style.
