Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea fans about Tiemoue Bakayoko
Antonio Conte was happy with Tiemoue Bakayoko's first display for Chelsea at Tottenham on Sunday
Antonio Conte has admitted that he was delighted by Tiemoue Bakayoko’s Chelsea debut during the 2-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.
The midfielder joined Chelsea from French side Monaco last month but missed the Blues’ opening games of the season due to a minor knee injury.
However, he was thrown straight into the starting line-up for Chelsea’s clash against Spurs at Wembley and he played the full 90 minutes as two goals from Marcos Alonso claimed the three points for the Blues.
And Conte was delighted by Bakayoko’s efforts, despite conceding that the midfielder is not yet 100 per cent fit.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at Wembley, Conte said: “It was the first game for Baka.
“Sometimes – I was a player – and sometimes the motivation brings you to get over your physical condition if you’re not at the top.
“Great stadium, great opponent, great atmosphere, it brought him to have an amazing performance, but for sure he can improve, and he needs to adapt more to our style of football.”
Bakayoko will be hoping to feature for Chelsea once again when the Blues return to Premier League action next weekend with a home clash against Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The west London side are aiming to defend their Premier League title this season after winning the trophy in style under Conte last term.
The Blues are also gearing up for a return to the Champions League group stage next month as they look to challenge for silverware on four fronts this term.
