Chelsea confident of signing 24-year-old amid £180,000-a-week offer – report
Chelsea are confident of completing a deal to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal this summer, according to reports
Chelsea are “confident” of completing a deal to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before the transfer deadline next week, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Blues feel that they will be able to lure the 24-year-old midfielder to Stamford Bridge, despite Arsenal having offered the England star a new contract worth £180,000 a week.
The same story says that Arsenal “fear” that Oxlade-Chamberlain will turn down the offer of a new contract because he does not want to sign a new deal with the Gunners.
The article says that Chelsea are willing to pay a fee of around £35m to sign the midfielder before the close of the summer transfer window next Thursday.
Arsenal officials are said to have met with Oxlade-Chamberlain on Thursday to discuss his future and during the meeting, he was offered the chance to more than double his wages to £180,000 a week.
It is claimed that the offer would place him only behind Alexandre Lacazette in the wage structure, because Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have not yet penned new deals.
The same report says that if Oxlade-Chamberlain does indeed want to leave, Arsene Wenger will be faced with the choice of either selling him now or watching him move to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer next summer.
