Chelsea closing in on fifth summer signing in £30m deal – report
Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Danny Drinkwater form Leicester City in a £30m deal, say reports
Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City in a £30m deal, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is claiming that the Blues are getting closer to tying up a deal for the England midfielder as Antonio Conte looks for his fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
The same report states that Chelsea have had a £15m bid for Drinkwater turned down in recent days and that Leicester City are holding out for a fee of around £40m for the 27-year-old.
However, the story also says that Drinkwater himself is “anxious” to make the transfer to Stamford Bridge before next Thursday’s deadline, and that could boost the chances of Leicester being willing to sell him.
Chelsea have been linked with a host of players this summer but the Blues have so far only tied up deals for Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
The west London side picked up their first Premier League points of the season last weekend when they secured a 2-1 win over bitter London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
The Blues are now preparing to host Everton at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League game on Sunday afternoon.
