Chelsea to make second bid for 27-year-old this week – report
Chelsea are to return with a new bid to try and sign Danny Drinkwater in the coming days, say reports
Chelsea are set to launch a second bid to try and sign Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City in the coming days, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the west London side are ready to make another attempt to lure the 27-year-old midfielder to Stamford Bridge after failing with their first bid to sign the England international.
Chelsea could be set to ramp up their summer spending after their suffered a humiliating defeat by Burnley at Stamford Bridge on the opening day of the season as both Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill were sent off.
The same article states that Chelsea had a bid of around £15m rejected by Leicester City this month as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his midfield options this summer.
The story also says that Drinkwater himself would be “interested” in a move to Stamford Bridge, but accepts that he would face competitive for a starting berth in the Blues’ line-up.
The same report also claims that Chelsea were keen on signing Drinkwater last summer, with the Blues having landed his former Leicester team-mate N’Golo Kante.
Chelsea have signed four players so far this summer – Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
