Chelsea waiting to bid for top 26-year-old Netherlands star – report
Chelsea are biding their time with a view to a late summer transfer move to sign Virgil van Dijk, say reports
Chelsea are waiting for the green light from Southampton before making a big-money bid to try and sign Virgil van Dijk, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Blues are waiting for encouragement from the south coast club to make a move to sign the Netherlands defender, whose future continues to be a source of speculation this summer.
The same report says that Southampton are currently maintaining their stance that Van Dijk is not for sale, despite the player clearly wanting a move away from St Mary’s.
Van Dijk has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer but a transfer to Anfield has not materialised as of yet.
The same story now says that Chelsea have “made it clear” to Southampton that they are interested in signing the 26-year-old defender this summer.
However, they will now wait for an update from the south coast club as to the defender’s availability before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month.
Chelsea are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings before the end of the summer transfer window, despite having brought in four new players so far.
