Chelsea will make improved bids to sign Danny Drinkwater and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this week, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Star is reporting that the west London side are set to step up their chase of the Premier League duo as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his squad before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month.

The same article says that Chelsea could be ready to spend as much as £120m on further signings this summer as Conte looks to bolster his team.

Chelsea endured a disappointing start to the Premier League season on Saturday when they were beaten 3-2 by Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

That defeat has placed more pressure on Conte and his summer transfer business as the Italian coach looks to line up a squad capable of challenging for trophies on four fronts this season.

The same report says that Chelsea are prepared to make a £25m bid for Drinkwater – but that Leicester City will demand a fee closer to £40m.

It also claims that the Blues have so far been unsuccessful in getting Arsenal to do business for Oxlade-Chamberlain for a fee of around £35m.

It remains to be seen whether the west London club will be able to convince their Premier League rivals to sell to them this month.
