Chelsea to make £25m bid to sign 23-year-old from rivals – report
Chelsea have stepped up their interest in signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal, say reports
Chelsea have stepped up their interest in signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal and are ready to make a £25m swoop, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the Blues are ready to make a serious effort to try and sign the midfielder from their Premier League rivals ahead of the new season.
The same report says that Chelsea have recently increased their interest in signing Oxlade-Chamberlain from the Gunners, but that Arsenal have rejected the club’s initial enquiries.
The story says that Chelsea will now “intensify” their efforts to try and sign Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal as Antonio Conte looks for his fifth recruit of the summer transfer window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has one more year left on his contract at Arsenal, meaning that he could leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
The Gunners are said to be keen to tie the 23-year-old down to a new contract but have so far been unsuccessful in trying to convince the midfielder to pen an extension.
Arsenal are currently preparing for the Premier League season curtain raiser on Friday night, when they take on Leicester City at The Emirates.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are gearing up for the start of their title defence with a home clash against Burnley on Saturday.
