Chelsea have long-term interest in top 24-year-old, reveals insider
Chelsea are big fans of Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and want to sign the England star, according to Jason Burt
Chelsea have been long-term admirers of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and “definitely” want to sign the Arsenal star, according to Jason Burt.
The England international has been linked with a potential move away from the north London side in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain entered the final 12 months of his current Arsenal contract and the versatile midfielder doesn’t appear close to signing a new deal.
Premier League champions Chelsea have been linked with a move to sign the former Southampton star throughout the summer so far.
The Blues could face competition from their title rivals Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to add more depth to his squad.
Oxalde-Chamberlain would be a valuable addition to both Chelsea or Liverpool given his ability to play as a wing-back, a winger and a central midfielder.
Daily Telegraph reporter Burt confirmed that the west London side are working hard on a deal to sign the England star before transfer deadline day.
“Chelsea are definitely in for Oxlade-Chamberlain,” Burt told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“They’ve been interested in Oxalde-Chamberlain for a long time. A lot of clubs are interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain because there is perception he can be a lot better.
“[But] I don’t think Arsenal want to sell whatsoever.”
Chelsea finished seven points clear of their closest title challengers Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race last term.
The Blues lost 3-2 to Burnley in their Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
The defending champions will take on Spurs at Wembley in their next top-flight game on Sunday.
