Chris Sutton tells Chelsea to make more signings or risk losing key man
The former Chelsea striker believes Antonio Conte could walk if the Blues don't add more signings to the Italian's squad
Chris Sutton has warned Chelsea that Antonio Conte will leave the Premier League champions unless more signings are added to his squad this summer.
The Blues made a disastrous start to the defence of their Premier League title on Saturday afternoon following a 3-2 loss to Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
Goals from Sam Vokes and Stephen Ward gave the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead in west London following Gary Cahill’s first-half sending off.
New signing Alvaro Morata netted his first goal for the English champions in the 59th minute before Cesc Fabregas was handed a straight red card.
David Luiz netted a late consolation goal as Chelsea slumped to a shock defeat in their opening Premier League game of the new campaign.
The west London side will take on bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their next top-flight fixture at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Former Chelsea striker Sutton had a stark warning for the Blues board about the consequences of not backing Conte in the summer transfer market.
“Conte desperately needs more players in the next couple of weeks,” Sutton told the Daily Mail.
“If he does not get them, there could well be a change of manager at Stamford Bridge.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season in Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid star Morata.
