Antonio Conte told Chelsea need to make signings in two positions
Chelsea need to sign a central midfielder and a wing back this summer, Stewart Robson says
Chelsea need to sign a central midfielder and wing-back in the summer transfer window, Stewart Robson has suggested.
The Premier League champions have already made four signings so far this summer but Chelsea have missed out on some top players.
Chelsea have recruited Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Manchester United managed to hijack Chelsea’s deal to sign Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian forward completed a £75m switch to Old Trafford from Everton.
The defending champions made the bizarre decision to sell Nemanja Matic to direct title rivals Manchester United in a £40m transfer deal earlier this month.
Chelsea have also seen important squad players such as Nathan Ake and Nathaniel Chabolah leave the west London side this summer.
Former Arsenal striker Robson believes Conte still needs a wing-back to cover Victor Moses and another central midfielder following Matic’s exit.
“Central midfield is key for them,” Robson told The Game podcast. “Bakayoko will be an excellent player but I still think they need another central midfielder and a right wing-back.”
Chelsea finished seven points clear of their closest title challengers Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race last summer.
The Blues were 2-1 winners against Spurs in their Premier League clash at Wembley last weekend thanks to Marcos Alonso’s goals either side of half-time.
