Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea fans about further signings
Antonio Conte admits that Chelsea still need to significantly bolster their squad ahead of the new season
Antonio Conte has made it clear that he wants to significantly further bolster his Chelsea squad this summer.
The Blues have been relatively active in the summer transfer window so far, after having concluded deals to sign Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
However, the west London side have also let a whole host of senior players leave the club, the latest of which coming when Nemanja Matic signed for Manchester United last week.
Chelsea continue to be linked with a host of other players this summer as Conte prepares for his second season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
And the Italian manager has once again underlined his desire to bring in significant reinforcements before the close of the window at the end of the month.
Speaking to Sky Sports at the Premier League launch on Wednesday, Conte said: “Yeah, for sure [Chelsea would struggle without more signings].
“At the end of the season I think it’s important that every great team try to improve. There are six strong teams in this country, which is not usual.
“These teams are very strong and improved a lot and this season will be very challenging.
“I hope to improve our squad and team. The transfer market isn’t finished, we want to be competitive and we want to fight for the title.
“The club knows what our priorities are. We have only three midfielders and we need another.”
Chelsea are preparing to kick off their Premier League title defence with a home clash against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Blues were beaten by Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday as they missed the chance to win their first trophy of the season.
