Insider reveals what’s holding up Chelsea’s deal to sign proven 27-year-old
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol reveals Leicester City are holding out for £40m transfer fee from Chelsea ahead of deadline day
Chelsea are struggling to get a deal over the line for Danny Drinkwater as Leicester City hold out for £40m transfer fee, Kaveh Solhekol has revealed.
The defending Premier League champions have been linked with a move to sign the 27-year-old throughout the summer transfer window so far.
The Blues have already failed with one offer to reach an agreement with the 2016 champions for the sale of the England international.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is thought to be keen to improve his squad options ahead of the west London side’s return to the Champions League.
The defending champions have already made four signings this summer but have allowed key players such as Nemanja Matic and John Terry to leave Stamford Bridge.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol has revealed Leicester are demanding £40m to sign Drinkwater from Chelsea before transfer deadline day.
“What about incomings at Chelsea? They’re still in talks to sign Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Monday morning.
“The big problem here is the price. Leicester are asking for about £40m. Drinkwater wasn’t involved on Saturday as Leicester lost 2-0 to Manchester United.”
Chelsea were 2-0 winners against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon to secure back-to-back top-flight victories.
The Blues have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger and Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The west London side lost to Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley earlier this month.
