Chelsea are poised to sign Danny Drinkwater as the England midfielder prepares to tell Leicester City that he wants to leave, according to reports in England.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Premier League champions are edging closer to a deal to bring the 27-year-old box-to-box midfielder this summer.
The same article states that the Blues wanted to sign Drinkwater last summer but Leicester were unwilling to sell N’Golo Kante and the English midfielder to Chelsea in a double deal.
According to the story, Chelsea gave up on the prospect of signing both Foxes stars in order not to jeopardise their attempts to recruit the France international.
The Daily Mirror reveals that Conte has been impressed with Drinkwater’s “work rate and game intelligence” as the Chelsea boss looks to bolster his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
