Insider reveals Chelsea want to sign 23-year-old full-back valued at around £25m
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol confirms Chelsea want to sign Joao Cancelo in the summer transfer window
Kaveh Solhekol has revealed that Chelsea are interested in signing Valencia defender Joao Cancelo in the summer transfer window.
The Premier League champions are thought to be in the market to sign a full-back to provide Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses with cover ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
Chelsea have been left frustrated in their pursuit of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro as the Serie A champions refuse to sell the Brazil international.
The west London side are now looking for alternatives to strengthen their squad in order to compete in four different competitions in Antonio Conte’s second season in charge.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol confirmed that the Premier League title holders are interested in Valencia full-back Cancelo.
“Antonio Conte wants to sign at least one wing-back this summer. One of the players he’s interested in is Joao Cancelo,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Wednesday.
“He’s a Valencia right-back and was scouted playing for Portugal in the European Under-21 championships.
“He’s been watched again during pre-season – Juventus and Spurs are also said to be interested. He’s valued at around £25m.”
Cancelo scored one goal and made four assists in 25 appearances in La Liga last season.
The 23-year-old started his career at Portuguese champions Benfica before completing a move to Valencia in a €15m deal.
Valencia full-back Cancelo has netted three times in five appearances for the Portugal national team.
However, the right-back wasn’t part of the Portugal team that won the European championship in France last summer.
