Journalist suggests Chelsea could discuss deal for 23-year-old attacker on Sunday
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol believes Chelsea could discuss a deal for Ross Barkley with Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
Chelsea could discuss a potential deal to sign Ross Barkley when the English champions host Everton on Sunday afternoon, according to Kaveh Solhekol.
The England international’s future has been a source of speculation throughout the summer transfer window following the playmaker’s decision not to sign a new Everton contract.
Barkley has been linked with a move to the English capital amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea in the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.
Everton are thought to be holding out for a transfer fee in the region of £40m for the their home-grown talent.
Barkley was considered to be one of the most exciting English talents in the Premier League when he burst onto the top-flight scene in 2011.
However, the Everton star’s progress has been stunted in recent seasons under Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol has suggested that Chelsea could hold talks with Everton about signing Barkley when the rivals face each other at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
“Another player Chelsea want to sign is Everton midfielder Ross Barkley,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Thursday morning.
“He has a year left on his contract and is refusing to sign a new deal. Spurs also want him but he won’t be playing for anyone for three months because of a hamstring injury.
“Everton are playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and that could be the perfect opportunity for more talks about Barkley.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term after the west London side finished seven points clear of closest title rivals Tottenham.
The Blues have signed four players in the summer transfer window.
