Antonio Conte instructs Chelsea to sign 25-year-old La Liga winner – report
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to add versatile Barcelona star Sergi Roberto to his squad, according to reports in Spain
Antonio Conte has instructed Chelsea to sign Sergi Roberto from Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish media outlet Sport, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Chelsea manager is an admirer of the 25-year-old Barcelona midfielder.
The same article states that Roberto’s versatility makes the Barcelona star an ideal candidate to improve the Premier League champions’ squad.
However, the Spanish publication claims that Barcelona want to recoup £36m for the La Masia product in the current transfer market.
Roberto has been previously linked with Manchester United this summer but the Barcelona player has failed to secure a summer move thus far.
The Spain international is able to play at wing-back or in midfield, which would make him an ideal addition to the Chelsea or Manchester United squad.
Roberto has a wealth of experience after winning four La Liga titles, two Champions League titles and the Copa del Rey four times since breaking into the Barcelona first-team squad.
The versatile defender scored the winning goal in Barcelona’s dramatic 6-5 aggregate win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of last 16 last term.
Chelsea and Manchester United will return to Europe’s premier club competition after a one-season absence in the 2017-18 campaign.
