Steven Gerrard insists he doesn’t have any sympathy for Chelsea despite their lack of signings this summer.

The Premier League champions have seen a huge turnover in playing staff in the summer transfer window so far.

Chelsea have signed four players so far following the additions of Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

The west London side have allowed six players to leave Stamford Bridge this summer despite their return to the Champions League in the 2017-18 campaign following a one-season absence.

Nemanja Matic completed a surprise £40m move to bitter rivals Manchester United in a £40m deal from the Premier League champions last week.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is rumoured to be unhappy with the club’s hierarchy over their lack of deals in the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool captain Gerrard refused to show any pity for the defending champions ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

“You can’t have any sympathy with Chelsea,” Gerrard told BT Sport on Sunday evening.

“They bring four players in, one of them’s a goalkeeper, and they let seven or eight go.

“Unless people above Conte are making those decisions and selling players without his permission…”

Chelsea lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon after the Gunners were 3-1 winners in the penalty shootout at Wembley.

Sead Kolasinac cancelled out Victor Moses’ second-half opener to force the shootout as Thibaut Courtois and Alvaro Morata missed their spot-kicks.
