Chelsea are preparing a £50m offer to beat Liverpool to the signing of Virgil van Dijk, according to reports in England.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Premier League champions are looking to steal a march on their title rival in the race to sign Van Dijk.
The same article states that the west London side are confident that they can tempt Van Dijk with a potential move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Van Dijk handed in a transfer request last week as the Southampton club captain looks to force through a move away from St Mary’s before transfer deadline day.
Liverpool were favourites to sign the Netherlands defender earlier this summer before the Merseyside outfit issued a statement apologising to the Saints about their pursuit of the Dutch star.
However, the Merseyside outfit continue to be linked with a move to sign the 26-year-old centre-half but face competition from cash-rich Manchester City.
Van Dijk moved to Southampton in a £15m deal from Scottish Premier League champions Celtic in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Chelsea lost 3-2 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge in their opening Premier League game of the 2017-18 season.
Liverpool played out a draw with 3-3 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday lunchtime.
