Chelsea prepare £60m move for top 26-year-old defender – report
Chelsea are prepared to make a £60m bid to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in the summer transfer window, according to reports
Chelsea are ready to launch a £60m bid to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to reports in England.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Premier League champions are looking to bring in some new summer recruits to appease manager Antonio Conte.
The same article states that the Blues are hopeful that a £60m move to sign Netherlands international Van Dijk from the Saints could dampen their manager’s growing frustrations.
Chelsea could face competition from Liverpool for the 26-year-old defender, although Southampton are thought to be reluctant to sell Van Dijk to the Merseyside outfit.
The west London side have made four signings in the summer transfer window so far, but the reigning champions have sold six players in the transfer window so far.
Chelsea snapped up goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
The reigning Premier League champions lost to bitter rivals Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield on Sunday after Sead Kolasinac cancelled out Victor Moses’ opener at Wembley.
Chelsea have now lost to Arsenal in their last two visits to Wembley following a 2-1 defeat by their London rivals in the FA Cup final in May.
