Chelsea ready to try and sign 26-year-old linked with Liverpool – report
Chelsea are ready to join the race to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton this summer, say reports
Chelsea are poised to make a bid to try and sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the Blues are ready to try and make a move to sign the 26-year-old defender if the Saints listen to the player’s transfer request and consider selling him.
Van Dijk’s name has never been far from the headlines this summer, with the defender having been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks.
Indeed, the Reds were close to signing the Netherlands international back in June but were forced to publicly withdraw their interest after Southampton accused them of an alleged illegal approach.
Liverpool issued a statement saying that they had ended their interest in the player, but he continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.
However, it seems that Chelsea could be set to offer competition for his signature, with the Daily Mail claiming that Chelsea are keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been linked with a host of players this summer but have so far only concluded deals for Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata ahead of the new season.
