Antonio Conte hints that Alvaro Morata could be set to make his Premier League debut when Chelsea host Burnley
Antonio Conte has revealed that Alvaro Morata is in contention to start Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Spanish striker is currently getting used to life at the west London club after signing for the Blues from Real Madrid last month in a deal believed to be worth around £58m.
Morata came on as a second-half substitute in Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield last weekend and missed his penalty in the shootout.
The 24-year-old has been working on his fitness levels after joining up with the Blues last month.
And the Chelsea boss has now confirmed that Morata is in line to make his Premier League debut when the Blues host Burnley in their first game of the season on Saturday.
Asked if Morata could start against the Clarets, Conte told Sky Sports News on Wednesday: “He could be an option, a possibility, to start on Saturday.”
Chelsea are looking to defend their Premier League title this season after their impressive title triumph last term.
The west London club are also gearing up for a return to the Champions League after missing out on a spot in Europe’s elite club competition last term.
