Chelsea boss has plan to sign top 23-year-old from rivals – report
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has a plan to turn Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain into a wing-back if he signs from Arsenal, say reports
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte believes he would be able to turn Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain into a quality wing-back by signing him from Arsenal this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Express is reporting that the Italian manager feels confident he would be able to get the best out of the 23-year-old midfielder in a new position were the Blues able to complete a deal to sign him from Arsenal.
The same report states that Chelsea are “poised” to make a £25m bid to sign the Englishman from Arsenal after he entered into the final 12 months of his contract at The Emirates.
The story also claims that Liverpool are thought to be interested in signing the Arsenal star this summer.
According to the article, Conte believes that he would be able to turn Oxlade-Chamberlain into a top wing-back, with the midfielder having played in that position several times for Arsenal last season.
That’s even though Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has insisted publicly that Oxlade-Chamberlain is not for sale this summer.
Chelsea are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as the Blues prepare for their Premier League title defence.
The west London side have already moved quickly to bring in Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata this summer.
