Joey Barton refused to get carried away with Liverpool’s 4-2 win against Hoffenheim despite Jurgen Klopp’s side booking their place in the Champions League group-stage draw.

The Reds welcomed the Bundesliga outfit to Anfield after the Merseyside outfit were 2-1 winners against Hoffenheim in Germany in the first leg of their playoff clash.

The home side settled any nerves with the opener in the tenth minute thanks to Emre Can’s deflected effort at Anfield to give Liverpool a 3-1 aggregate lead.

Summer signing Mohamed Salah doubled Liverpool’s lead on the night with a close-range finish after Georginio Wijnaldim hit the woodwork.

Can scored his second goal of the night with a precise finish to put Liverpool in charge of the tie before Mark Uth punished Dejan Lovren for a misplaced pass to give the visitors faint hope of a comeback.

Klopp’s men extinguished any possibility of an upset in the second half when Jordan Henderson unselfishly teed up Firmino to put the result beyond any doubt despite Sandro Wagner’s late consolation.

Former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder Barton question whether Liverpool produced an excellent attacking performance or Hoffenheim really aren’t very good.

Barton posted on his Twitter page: “Liverpool on fire here. Trying to work out if they’re really good or Hoffenheim are that bad?”

Liverpool will take on Arsenal in their next Premier League game on Sunday.
