Gary Neville was clearly less than impressed by Aaron Ramsey’s dismal performance for Arsenal during the Gunners’ 4-0 thrashing by Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal failed to gain a foothold in the game at Anfield in the first half as they were largely outplayed on Merseyside.

Goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane put Liverpool 2-0 up before half-time, and summer signing Mohamed Salah made it 3-0 with a neat finish after the restart.

Substitute Daniel Sturridge then headed home in the 78th minute from Salah’s cross to add further gloss to the scoreline.

Ramsey was heavily criticised by Neville for his first-half performance during commentary on Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon.

And the Wales international ended up being substituted at half-time as he was replaced by Francis Coquelin.

That prompted Neville to aim a sarcastic dig at Ramsey after he was hauled off by Arsene Wenger at half-time.

Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Neville said: “They took Aaron Ramsey off, which is a shame because he would have been my man of the match… So I could get the post-match interview with him.”

Earlier in the first half, Neville did not hold back with his criticism, saying: “Look at it from Mesut Ozil and Ramsey. Look at his [Ozil’s] recovery run. I’m absolutely fuming watching this, honestly.

“Coming back to Arsenal, it’s absolutely ridiculous some of the things that we see on a football pitch from them.”

The win lifted Liverpool up to second place in the Premier League table and two points behind Manchester United.

The Reds return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to The Etihad to take on Manchester City on Saturday 9 September.
