Paul Merson states his prediction for Liverpool v Arsenal
Paul Merson looks ahead to Liverpool's clash with Arsenal at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday
Paul Merson is tipping Liverpool to heap more misery on Arsenal by claiming a 3-1 victory over the Gunners in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday.
Arsenal head into the game looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Stoke City last weekend.
The Reds, meanwhile, are preparing to take on the Gunners, fresh from having secured their place in the group stage of the Champions League with a 4-2 win over Hoffenheim at Anfield.
Liverpool also notched up their first Premier League win of the season last weekend after they sealed a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield.
And former Arsenal star Merson is tipping the Reds to claim the three points in front of their home fans once again this weekend.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “I’ve got to go for Liverpool here.
“They will suffocate Arsenal’s attack and exploit their poor, poor defence. If the Gunners continue to play three at the back, it will play into the hands of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
“Yes, Liverpool always concede but, going forward, they will have miles too much for this current Arsenal side.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League last season, while Arsenal ended up in fifth place and missed out on Champions League qualification.
The Gunners, who have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season, will have to make do with Europa League football this term after their disappointing fifth placed finish last term.
