Michael Owen is tipping Philippe Coutinho to stay at Liverpool beyond the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian playmaker has been heavily linked with a transfer to Barcelona in recent days amid the uncertainty about Neymar’s future at the club.
Liverpool fans will certainly be hoping that Coutinho stays at the Merseyside outfit beyond the summer, with the 25-year-old widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents.
Coutinho only recently committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new five-year contract with the Merseyside club back in January.
The attacker’s situation continues to be a source of speculation as the new season draws ever nearer, but former Liverpool striker Owen feels confident that he is likely to stay on at Anfield.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Star, Owen said: “I’d be very surprised if he left. Liverpool are a club progressing and from what I understand he is happy.
“The fans love him, Jurgen Klopp loves him and he only signed a new contract recently.
“I don’t believe he is unsettled but if Neymar does go that will of course only intensify their interest.
“And Liverpool saw it with Suarez that South Americans tend to prefer the Spanish League with the language and culture.
“Hopefully history won’t repeat itself as he is great for Liverpool and for the Premier League.”
Liverpool are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Reds finished fourth in the Premier League table last term.
Jurgen Klopp will also be hoping that his team can mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season.
