Alan Shearer sends clear message to Liverpool fans about Philippe Coutinho
Alan Shearer tells Liverpool to cash in on Philippe Coutinho as he continues to be linked with Barcelona
Alan Shearer has told Liverpool to cash in on Philippe Coutinho as he continues to be linked with a transfer to Barcelona.
The Brazilian playmaker’s future at Anfield has been a relentless source of speculation in recent days, with Barcelona thought to be keen on signing him as a replacement for Neymar.
Coutinho is believed to have handed in a transfer request at Liverpool last week as the 25-year-old looks to force a transfer away from Anfield, despite having five years left on his current contract.
However, former Newcastle and Blackburn striker Shearer believes that Liverpool would be wise to let Coutinho leave the club this summer if he is not happy.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer said: “They’ve got to sell him. He’s made his intentions clear. He doesn’t want to be there. You get your money.”
Liverpool were 2-1 winners over German side Hoffenheim in the first leg of their Champions League play-off clash on Tuesday night.
The Reds now turn their attentions towards their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday as they look to secure their first win of the season following their 3-3 draw with Watford last weekend.
Coutinho signed for Liverpool from Inter Milan in the January transfer window back in 2013 and has since earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attackers.
