Adam Lallana: This Liverpool star is better than two new signings if fit
The Liverpool midfielder suggests a fit Daniel Sturridge would equate to two new signings if the England star can stay injury-free this season
Adam Lallana has claimed that a fit Daniel Sturridge would equate to two new Liverpool signings.
The England star has struggled with fitness issues over the past two seasons under Jurgen Klopp to limit his ability to have an impact on the Liverpool side.
However, Sturridge has completed a full pre-season with the Reds so far to end talk of a potential summer move ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League season.
The 28-year-old scored a sumptuous goal in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup before he was forced off with an injury.
But his England and Liverpool team-mate Lallana is under no illusion to the type of impact Sturridge could have next season if the striker can stay fit.
“Listen, Studge has been absolutely brilliant in pre-season so far. You couldn’t put a price on him,” Lallana told Daily Telegraph.
“He is a world class player. He has come back from the summer looking absolutely brilliant, so fit. He is going to be a massive player for us this season. I can feel it.
“He is looking really sharp and to have him firing on all cylinders would be like having two new signings if we can keep on the pitch and get him scoring goals.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
The Reds were 4-0 winners against West Ham in their penultimate game and Sturridge scored a vital goal to help Liverpool win in east London.
The Merseyside outfit have signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson so far this summer.
