Steven Gerrard tells Jurgen Klopp to make these Liverpool signings now
Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool should still try and sign Virgil van Dijk and other players this summer
Steven Gerrard has told Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to secure the signature of Virgil van Dijk and other new signings before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month.
The Reds have been linked with a host of top players during the summer transfer window, but they have only brought in three new faces so far.
Liverpool have signed Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson so far as the Reds look to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
The Reds were also thought to be on the brink of concluding a deal for defender Virgil van Dijk earlier this summer before the proposed move fell through after Southampton accused Liverpool of an alleged illegal approach.
Gerrard, though, feels that Liverpool need to try and rekindle their efforts to sign Van Dijk from Southampton this summer, as well as look at strengthening other areas of the squad.
Asked if signing Van Dijk is still a necessity for Liverpool, Gerrard told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight: “Yes. If we want to compete in the league and the Champions League, we need two or three signings in.”
Liverpool are currently gearing up for their crunch Champions League play-off second-leg tie against Hoffenheim on Wednesday night, having won the first leg 2-1 in Germany last week.
