Martin Keown sends warning to Liverpool fans about Jurgen Klopp’s style
The Arsenal legend warns Liverpool could burn out under Jurgen Klopp again this season
Martin Keown has warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool must find a better balance in the 2017-18 Premier League season to challenge for the title.
The Reds ended up in fourth place in the Premier League table last season after finishing up behind champions Chelsea, runners-up Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
Klopp’s side initially challenged Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the table, with the Reds moving into second place on New Year’s Eve thanks to a 1-0 victory over the Citizens at Anfield.
Injuries and a loss of form saw Liverpool drop out of the title race and focus their efforts on securing a top-four place for the first time since 2013-14.
However, Liverpool managed to see off competition from traditional rivals Arsenal and Manchester United for the final qualifying spot with back-to-back wins in their final two games of the season.
Former Arsenal defender Keown warned Klopp that he can ill-afford to allow his Liverpool team to burn out halfway through the 2017-18 campaign.
“Liverpool are a reflection of their manager’s personality with their high-octane style. Klopp’s team were scintillating to watch before Christmas but ended up limping into the top four,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“They set off too quickly and Klopp must find a better balance this season.”
Liverpool snapped up AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah in a club-record 39m deal last month, while the Reds have added Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson to the squad.
