The Liverpool legend issues a warning to Jurgen Klopp about Mohamed Salah replacing Philippe Coutinho
Jamie Redknapp has warned Liverpool that Mohamed Salah will struggle to unlock opposition defences as effectively as Philippe Coutinho.
The Egypt international moved to Liverpool in a club-record £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in June.
The former Chelsea winger scored 15 times and made 11 assists in the Italian top flight last season to highlight his improvement since a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool are facing a battle to keep their prized asset Philippe Coutinho amid reported interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.
The Catalan side are thought to be keen on signing the Brazil international Coutinho to replace his compatriot Neymar after the striker completed a 198m switch to Paris Saint-Germain.
Former Liverpool captain Redknapp warned that Salah will struggle to unlock defences like Coutinho should the Brazilian leave Anfield this summer.
“Salah gives you pace and penetration but he doesn’t unlock the door like Philippe Coutinho,” Redknapp told The Debate on Sky Sports last week, before Salah opened his Liverpool account in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Watford on Saturday.
Coutinho scored 13 goals and made seven assists in 31 appearances in the Premier League last season as Liverpool finished in fourth place in the table.
The Brazil international moved to Liverpool in an £8.5m deal from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the 2013 January transfer window.
The Reds haven’t won any silverware since Coutinho completed his switch to the Anfield outfit.
